Club Reviews 2011

BEST OF BRITISH CMC, Larkfield, Chatham

December 31st.  The Joe D Rose Band saw us into the New Year in style, even performing Auld  Lang Syne for us at midnight. This friendly act have had a change of line-up with Glenn on bass guitar and vocals in place of Joe's brother. The rest of the band are Joe on lead vocals, keyboard and rhythm guitar, Reg on drums and harmonies and Mark on lead guitar, pedal steel and vocals. Mark's pedal steel wouldn't function tonight due to a technical problem but he made up for that with some excellent lead guitar work.

Each set saw them wearing a change of shirt and entering into the party spirit and they wore colourful wigs for the last set. Thanks to them for their contribution to a lively and enjoyable New Year's Eve.

WESTERN MOONSHINERS, Chatham

July 23rd. A bands first time at the Western Moonshiner were J D Rose Band. Joe, main singer, backed by Keith, Reg, Mark, also a fifth member on stage whose name I did not get, my fault. They read the people in the hall well and played music to suit everybody. They arrived early in plenty of time to set up and do a sound check. Then we sat down and had tea and coffee. It was nice to have time to chill out before the doors opened. Nice to see the hall filling up and with several club organisers in. Then it was time for the band to come out on stage very smartly dressed and changing every set. They were given a good reception and this carried on all night. We will be having them back as soon as we can work a date with them.

CHAPPERAL CMC, Rettenden

May 7th. Tonight we had the Joe D Rose Band. The band consists of Joe as the lead singer, Keith on Bass, Mark on lead guitar and pedal steel and Reg on Drums. A great favourite at the club, they gave three great sets of traditional country music. They had the dancers on the floor all night. Another full house tonight, these boys are a must for any club. You will not be disappointed. Thanks Joe and boys for a great night. Will be back at the club again soon.

 ACE of DIAMONDS, Footscray

18th February. Back with us again JOE D ROSE BAND. With Reg on drums/harmony, Mark lead guitar, pedal steel, harmony/vocals, Keith bass guitar, harmony/vocals & fronting Joe, rhythm guitar, keyboard, lead vocals. The floor was kept busy with tunes like 'Wabash Cannonball', 'Poor Boy Blues', 'I Saw The Light' & 'It Only Hurts Me When I Cry'. A very smart band who changed their outfits between sets. We had a good crowd in tonight including a minibus from Bar X Rancheros CWC from Andover. It was nice to see them all in western gear and joining in the  Virginia Reel.

 OCEAN VEW, Alverdiscott

18th January. Tonight it was a return visit by the JOE D ROSE band. Reg on drums and vocals, Keith on bass and vocals, Mark on pedal steel, harmony vocals, and Joe on keyboard, rhythm and lead vocals. It's always a pleasure to welcome these lads because you kmow you are in for a good evening as it proved once again tonight, opening with Merle Haggard's 'Ramblin Fever', Hank Snow's classic 'Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On'. Three sets of pure country, volume and sound ok. Smart in appearance and non stop music. It was nice to hear Kenny Rogers 'Coward of the County', it's been years since I heard that! It's always good to have live drums, especially an electronic drum kit which I think I prefer to the normal; kit. We had some instrumentals and another from the past, George Hamilton's 'Abilene'. Dereck and Becky paid us a visit from Plymouth and Marion helped me with the raffle.

They finished off with a Billy Ray Cyrus number and one for an encore, 'Best of Friends', when everyone gets together and we had a packed house tonight, biggest ever!

LOST LEADER CM NIGHTS, Southampton

9th January. JOE D ROSE BAND. Started the evening off well with 'Ramblin' Fever' and 'Poor Boy Blues' getting the dancers on the floor. The band consists of Joe (a miniature Burl Ives) on Lead Vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboard, Mark on lead guitar and pedal steel, Keith on bass and vocals, and Reg on drums and vocals, all harmonising well. they gave an excellent evening with numbers we love to hear - 'Waltz Across Texas' one of my favourites, 'It Only Hurts When I Cry', 'Abilene' and 'Best Of friends'. Professional stage presentation, change of shirt each set and even a change of trousers for the last set. They had a slightly different arrangement to some of the old favourites, making them more interesting. Doris and Bill - you missed a good evening - lots of waltzes!
